How many Godfather movies were there?

3rd is more political but it is good.
Most people like the second one better than the other 2 because of the flashback scenes

Mario Puzo, the author of the books that the movies are based on, also wrote The Last Don, The Sicilian, The Family, and a slew of others, some containing the same characters, and others not, but maintaining some parallels.

There is another new book, The Godfather Returns, not by Puzo, but by a guy named Mike Winegardner, that contains characters from The Godfather, and apparently continues the story...
